On May 26, 2025, I will be traveling to Vietnam, particularly Saigon, (Ho Chi Minh City) for the first time. I will be going with Casey, her mom and dada and a few close friends.
I'm excited to write about Ho Chi Minh City because I notice that most of the articles, travel blogs and stories published to promote Vietnam are mostly about Hanoi and all other cities that have become well-known tourist spots after the Vietnam War.
Ho Chi Minh City as it is popularly called today was formerly called Saigon. Before the War, Vietnam was divided into South Vietnam and North Vietnam. Saigon was the capital of South Vietnam and Hanoi was the capital of North Vietnam.
The airport in Ho Chi Minh City is called Than Son Naht International Airport. For me, it's very important to know where I will be landing after coming from my own country. This is the gateway to the southern part of Vietnam so anybody who is entering the country should know the name of the airport. In Hanoi, their airport is called Noi Bai International Airport.
So what do I expect to see and do in Ho Chi Minh City? What does Casey want to do and where does she want to go?
First off, I would like to take Casey to Ben Tanh Market because that place is very close to our hotel. Friends and family who have been to Ben Tanh say that this is a place where you can find good food, various local merchandise, and souvenirs. Casey would love to go there!
Next, I would like to explore Nguyen Hue Street, said to be one of the oldest streets in Saigon which has become a favorite tourist destination. You will find restaurants, cafes, and various shops on this street which is located just across the Ho Chi Minh city hall.
Go on a street food tour. I would like to know what types of street food is offered to the people and which ones are their favorite.
I have no plans of visiting the Cu Chi Tunnels because I am claustrophobic but I'll probably visit the War Museum, the Cathedral, the Post Office, the Bitexco Financial Tower, and the Independence Palace.
Ho Chi Minh City here we come!
